My husband had been out of work for a few months now, which has resulted in him having to expand his job search to out of state. (We live in the DFW, TX area) I just graduated from nursing school and now hold a license in Texas. The most positive job offers and the people who seem to want my husband the most is from a national company with locations on the east and west coast. The west coast director called him yesterday and told him "I want you". This would mean moving to the Ontario, Placentia, Fountain Valley, CA area. I have spent hours on the internet but having never even visited CA I have no idea what I'm even looking for. I'm hoping to make this a positive move for my whole family so if anyone can give suggestions or ideas about location as well as any information about the general areas (entertainment, safety, climate, SCHOOLS!) We have 6 children. 5 girls who's ages are 20, 14,13,13, and 6, and 1 boy who will graduate in June and be 18 later that month. Out of our children, I'm not sure the oldest daughter would move right away because she's in school in TX and her social life is here. My step-son has also expressed that he may stay in TX and live with grand parents and go to school here as well. My 14 y/o is extremely active in dance and has won many local acting awards (this move would be perfect for her) the other two older girls are like night and day. One is very active in all school sports (volleyball, basketball, and track) while the other is more in to art. We try to foster all of their abilities and so far have been able to do so in this community. I want a place where they can still "do they're own thing" but I don't have to worry about them. We also need a big house, which from looking there seems to be no shortage of, but I would like to go back to school so I need to keep the cost low, but not where it would compromise a nice, safe location. I'm just looking for personal opinions and experiences, to better help our decision on location. All input is appreciated! All cost of living details have been considered. I am aware of the 9.3% state tax rate as well as the price of gas and college. I have the money aspects taken care of, if the money wasn't right we would never consider moving, after all, we are looking to improve our quality of living not the opposite. Now, I just need to work out the details of WHERE to live!... Read More »
